Doreen Taylor Featured in EDGE

Southern Rock superstar, Doreen Taylor was recently featured in New England's number one LGBT website, EDGE where they dove deeper into the award winning singer/songwriter's "MAGICAL" journey.

From the angled eye of experience in the commonalities of love’s everyday twists and turns ("Rainy Night in Memphis") to the uplifting power of finding that spark of wonder and joy in doing what you love ("Music’s My Magic"), Doreen Taylor is realizing her own personal strengths from within, and this is her gift as a singer and songwriter.

With her latest CD "Magic" she has delivered a set of songs which travel along not only in an autobiographical way for the singer, but also can provide inspiration to others. Taylor mixes together both a sass of feminine wiles in several songs which explode with country-rock energy while other material on "Magic" searches deeper into her emotional core as an independent artist, making sense of the struggle and rewards of creating music that is true to her goals as an artist and performer.

Currently showcasing "Magic" with a national tour throughout the rest of 2013, Taylor spoke with EDGE of her passion for performing, shared a few personal reflections on the songwriting process and just how one song "Perfect for Me" has struck a chord for her LGBT audiences in the fight against bullying of any kind and the importance of understanding and accepting the differences in each of us.

Buffalo Country-Rock Songstress Returns Home as Successful International Recording Artist with Vegas-style ‘Feast for the Senses’ on October 20th, 2013.

Whether your musical palette drives you toward soothing vocals, engaging and upbeat showmanship or homegrown country roots, there’s a strong and mighty fusion of all three in DOREEN TAYLOR LIVE: A BUFFALO HOMECOMING BENEFIT – a special one-night only Vegas-style “feast for the senses” that brings the sultry Buffalo born-and-raised songstress back home for the first time since launching her career as an award-winning international recording artist.

Returning to the area where she was born and raised in a benefit for local charity Andrew’s Army following a pair of recent sold out shows in Philadelphia, her East Coast base, the Alden High School grad raises the bar on the 2013 tour for her breakout album, Magic, Sunday, October 20th in Asbury Hall at Babeville, 341 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY. Show time is 7 p.m., Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets go on sale Thursday, August 29th at NOON EST at www.babevillebuffalo.com (via tickets.com), by calling 888-223-6000, or at the Babeville box office.

“Magic” showcases Doreen’s talents as not only a vocalist, but as a songwriter and musician. She prides herself on the raw, emotional vibe of her lyrics and multiple abilities to engage an audience. For DOREEN TAYLOR LIVE, she’s designed an audience interactive production that truly embodies the title of “Magic” by showcasing its grandeur with sexy female dancers, special effects and lighting, video interaction, an 8-piece band and plenty more surprises – all delivered with a little bit of country, a lot of rock ‘n’ roll, and a Vegas flair.

Being able to make her hometown debut with this show as a headliner dubbed by the Huffington Post as “an excellent performing artist to keep your eyes on,” while supporting a local charity founded by one of her high school teachers, makes this evening an extra special honor for Doreen.

“I’ve been waiting several years to find the right opportunity to come back to Buffalo,” she says, “and I am so excited to be able to do it with this production. I can’t think of a better way to return to my roots! I love Buffalo and I am so ready to take no prisoners on that Babeville stage! This show is a feast for all the senses. We don’t park and bark. We don’t just sit there and play. I don’t hold back.“

Andrew's Army is a non-profit organization created by Doreen’s Alden High teacher, Lori Gramza, in memory of her son Andrew Gramza, whose heart valves were donated after he was killed at 21 in an automobile accident. The charity raises money and awareness about the importance of organ, tissue, and blood donations for Upstate New York Transplant Services (Unyts)/Donate Life to support their cause. By sheer coincidence (or divine intervention), Doreen’s concert just happens to land on the three-year anniversary of Andrew’s untimely passing.

“Lori Gramza was always an inspiration to me,” says Doreen. “When I heard of her son Andrew’s tragic passing in 2010, I knew I wanted to do something to help. And when I decided to bring the ‘Magic’ tour to Buffalo several years later, teaming up with Lori’s charity was a no-brainer. Andrew’s Army continues to save countless lives. I can’t think of a more beautiful way to give back.

“To top it all off, when Lori told me the concert just happened to be scheduled on the third anniversary of the accident that inevitably ended Andrew’s life, chills ran up and down my body. I knew right then and there something much deeper was happening. I believe that this isn’t just a concert anymore – this is something much more magical.”

Doreen’s hometown upbringing gave way to a sudden and remarkable career at an early age when her town, family, congregation and most importantly Doreen herself, realized the true power and strength of her voice. While some singers feel performing since childhood has burned them out or shown them the wrong side of the industry, she believes her young start has only made her stronger as a vocalist, songwriter and performer. Doreen lays out all her emotions on stage to be transported into the hearts and ears of everyone in attendance. Showmanship always has been as important to her as the music behind it. And DOREEN TAYLOR LIVE showcases her evolution as an artist to be reckoned with.

“Without straying too far from my roots, I wanted to make it accessible for everyone,” she says. “Whether you like country, rock, pop, jazz or even funk, it’s gonna be right there for you. It’s a beautiful show.”

Doreen Taylor's "MAGIC" reviewed in Fatea Magazine

Doreen Taylor's award winning album, "Magic" was recently selected to be reviewed by the 25 year veteran indie magazine based in the UK, Fatea Magazine. This quarterly publication showcases independent artists throughout the world. Check out this amazingly fabulous write-up below and a special thank you to reviewer, Gemma Hirst for loving the album!

So with the likes of Taylor Swift going around the charts, I feel that women who are trying to make it in the industry of country and western aren't taken a notice of.

However I think Doreen Taylor will take the charts by storm. Her album Magic may not pull a rabbit out of a hat but it does fill my eyes with sequins and glitter. Unlike others, her voice is suited to this type of country music. I love the fact that the album is mostly full of upbeat tracks, such as Good Girls Wanna Be Bad and Baby C'mon. Doreen Taylor shows us how she can have fun.

But not everything is up and partying, oh no. The album finishes with Summertime, here she pours her heart and soul into the song. With the original coming from Porgy and Bess, she makes the song her own. Usually I myself am not a fan of this genre; however thanks to Doreen Taylor she has fully convinced me with her new album (Magic) to love this form of music. She has fun and knows when to turn it down a notch, after all that dancing around to her guitar strumming tracks. And like after all Magic shows, she gets a standing ovation from me.
